DiFiore to head the Indians
Staff report:
GLENS FALLS -- The Glens Falls High School has
named assistant coach, Mike Di Fiore, as head coach of the Indians Ice
Hockey program. Difiore
replaces his former teammate and first year coach, Pat Murphy, who in
turn, replaced long time coach Don Miller.
Murphy stepped down after only one season, citing “personal
reasons”. Both DiFiore
and Murphy played for and coached under the now retired Miller.
“It is
exciting for me to be given the opportunity to coach at the school I
played for, and to follow in the footsteps of Coach Miller”,
DiFiore said, “Glens Falls has
a great program and great student/athletes. I look forward to a
productive season.”
Difiore’s coaching resume includes several years
as an assistant as well as head coach for the South Glens Falls
Bulldogs, before joining Glens Falls as an assistant.
He is also a member of the Warrensburg High School Football
Staff.
Glens Falls
High School Athletic Director, Doug Kenyon, stated in an interview, “We
are pleased that Mike has agreed to become our Hockey Coach. Glens Falls
has a great tradition as an excellent High School Hockey Program and
Mike will carry on this tradition.”
Kenyon went on to say, “He played high school hockey at Glens
Falls and then came back to assist us in our program.
He is respected by our players as well as the Glens Falls Hockey
Community.”
Di Fiore is a 1988 Glens Falls High School graduate
who played Indians hockey for two seasons, 1986-88, as a Goaltender.
Mike went on to graduate from the State University of New York at
Potsdam, where he played Goaltender for the Bears.
He is currently a Social Studies Teacher at the Warrensburg
Junior/Senior High School.
